Five Business Lessons I Learned at the 2018 Essence Fest

July 20, 2018 by Danyelle Little

The 2018 Essence Fest may be over, but I am sharing some gems and lessons with you that I learned while attending. Peep game.

I am currently in the post-glow feeling of the 2018 Essence Fest even though it was a few weeks ago. I am still processing the event and the Black Girl Magic of it all. I recently read that it was the most-attended Essence Fest with over 500,000 attendees whom infiltrated New Orleans for a party like none other. I’ve been to the Essence Fest before, but this one was different.

I call it the Girls’ Trip Effect.

Women of color in the 21 century are professional, high earners, and oftentimes are the most coveted demographic group when it comes to setting trends. The world looks to us as leaders of the culture, and thus, we are making Money Moves and have power with our dollar.

During the event, I was in awe at the hugeness of it all and of the brands who attended and poured hundreds of thousands of dollars to get our attention.

The 2018 Essence Fest was a case-study of melanin magesticness and from a business standpoint, I was educated in so many ways. Pull up a chair and I will share with you the Five Business Lessons I Learned at the 2018 Essence Fest.

How to Use IGTV to Enhance Your Business or Brand

July 13, 2018 by Danyelle Little

I am sharing five ways how to use IGTV that can help personal brands, entrepreneurs, and businesses. Don't sleep on this new tool.

Back in June, Instagram released their latest rollout for creators—IGTV. Aimed at being a rival to YouTube, it allows users to create long-form video content that can be seen within the traditional Instagram app and also on a standalone IGTV application. Videos can be up to an hour and allow users to make compelling video content to compliment their Instagram channels.

As a lover of Instagram, I can see myself totally using this even more than YouTube. I find YouTube to be very user unfriendly, and since Instagram is where I’m at (and mostly everyone else is too), it can be a viable tool for business owners, imprints, and personal brands.

I’ve shot several IGTV videos, and I feel like I have a handle on it. I’ve been working on my strategy and how I will use it to propel my message, and if you aren’t using it already, you could be missing out.

If you are still on the fence, I’m sharing tips on how to use IGTV to enhance your business or brand below. Get ready to do some work.

Halfway Through 2018: 6 Tips to Help You Finish the Year Strong

June 29, 2018 by Danyelle Little

We are at the halfway mark for 2018. I've got some tips to help you finish the year strong, things that you can implement now so you conquer your goals.

Six months behind us—six months more to go.

You started 2018 strong and bold. You made a list of goals. You strategized. You planned. Things were going well and you were starting to make some headway. And then, as the year started moving into March and April and then May, you fell off. It’s easy to do, as creating habits and a consistent plan for your goals is hard for most to achieve. And now that we are about halfway through 2018, you aren’t where you want to be.

But the good thing about all of this is that you have the opportunity to shift and pivot and self correct. And you still have six months to finish the year on a good note and with your goals and achievements mission accomplished. I am sharing six tips to help you finish the year strong, and they are tips that I am also following to make sure that 2018 is the best year yet.

#1 Follow your own plan, not someone else’s

It can be easy to get caught up in what other people are doing. But while they are moving closer to their purpose, you remain stagnant. Here’s the deal: you can’t follow someone else’s blueprint, you have to create your own. The recipes to your secret sauce are authentic to you, your experiences, and your offerings. So go forward knowledgeable about trends and what’s going on in the space around you, but don’t copy it. You are a unique and talented individual who should be sharing your gifts with the world. Don’t look to others to chart your course—look to yourself.

For 90 Minutes, I Was Weightless

June 15, 2018 by Danyelle Little

For 90 minutes, I was weightless during my floating experience. Learn about how floating can help you mind, body, and soul, and why you are a professional should try it.

With so much going on in the world, you can begin to feel heavy. Bogged down. Full. I am always looking for ways to decompress while seeking peace and tranquility, and I found yet another way to get some zen. A friend and I heard about floating and found out that there was a place locally that offered floating services to those needing relaxation, serenity, and even managing for physical and mental pain.

Enter Float STL.

Floating is a wellness experience for your mind, body, & soul where you float effortlessly on top of high density salt water in a supported environment. In my instance, you are in a pod with subdued light and music as you float weightlessly. While doing so, everything is tuned out. The world, your problems, negativity, and even physical ailments.

For 90 minutes, I was weightless.

Being able to find moments in our lives where we address our self care and our overall wellness is critical to our professional successes. If we don’t take of ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, we can only go so far. So I hope by sharing my experience with floating that it encourages you to seek something on that level to do something good for yourself.

I am currently several hours post float and the effects are still with me. I feel more at peace, more calm, and have a sense of awakened activity. I am more tuned in with my senses, and I also feel lighter, if that is possible.
