Back in June, Instagram released their latest rollout for creators—IGTV. Aimed at being a rival to YouTube, it allows users to create long-form video content that can be seen within the traditional Instagram app and also on a standalone IGTV application. Videos can be up to an hour and allow users to make compelling video content to compliment their Instagram channels.
As a lover of Instagram, I can see myself totally using this even more than YouTube. I find YouTube to be very user unfriendly, and since Instagram is where I’m at (and mostly everyone else is too), it can be a viable tool for business owners, imprints, and personal brands.
I’ve shot several IGTV videos, and I feel like I have a handle on it. I’ve been working on my strategy and how I will use it to propel my message, and if you aren’t using it already, you could be missing out.
If you are still on the fence, I’m sharing tips on how to use IGTV to enhance your business or brand below. Get ready to do some work.
Repurpose blog content
IGTV is the perfect spot to repurpose popular blog content or posts that went under the radar. Select a post that is in season and relative to the time period and turn into video via IGTV. This can help extend the message and allow you to share your expertise via video.
Show ’em how it’s done
How-to’s are going to be huge on IGTV. You see how they have revolutionized the way we use Facebook, as how-to videos are the most popular on the platform. Break down a popular recipe, or show your peeps how to recreate your latest DIY.
This will give people reasons to continue to watch your channel and recommend it to others.
Weekly check-ins
This type of video is still popular on YouTube, and I can easily see it being a fan favorite on IGTV. Update your followers and viewers on your goings on—what you’re working on, what you’ve been up to, all of that kind of stuff.
Behind the scenes
IGTV is a great way to show behind-the-scenes aspects of your brand and business. On your Instagram feed, you are often showing the finished product. You are #WCW worthy and fly and fabulous. Use IGTV to show how you got to that flawlessness. Show your workspace, or how you edit your photos, or the chaos that may surround you before you are picture perfect.
Doing so can humanize you and make you a compelling subject that people want to engage, support, and buy from.
Sales campaign
IGTV is an opportunity to launch specials and sales and campaigns that can bring you in some dough. Sell it as a “you heard it here first” for extra traction and a compelling buy-in.
Make sure to use a tripod when filming for a more polished touch. Utilize good lighting, and edit the video for maximum greatness.
IGTV is on its way to being a huge player in the way that people consume content. Make sure you add it into your social media arsenal for added benefits.
